British Labour politician Michael Foot has died in his North London home at the age of 96.
Born July 1913 and was a writer and British Labour politician and during his career had also been a member of parliament and leader of the opposition. Michael was also a figure head of Old Labour and a passionate supporter of Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament.
In 1983 he took at back seat from Labour politics and retired from the House of Commons in 1992 but remained politically active. On 23 July 2006, his 93rd birthday, Michael Foot became the longest-lived leader of a major British political party. A republican and proponent of an elected upper house, Michael had rejected honours from the Queen and the government, including a knighthood and a peerage, on several occasions.
During his personal life he was married to feminist historian Jill Craigie in 1949 until her death in 1999.
